Governor of Anambra State, Prof. Chukwuma Soludo and General Chairman (PG) of Umueri General Assembly, Johnny Chukwudi Metchie were commended for the ongoing transformation of the Umueri community since their taking office this year.
The hospital was abandoned by the government for many years, until the administration of former Governor Peter Obi rehabilitated it a decade ago.
However, Umueri General Hospital was again left unattended during the eight years that Willie Obiano ruled Anambra State as the facility became overrun with weeds and reptiles.
Life returned to the hospital, just two months into Soludo’s tenure and less than three months since Metchie was inaugurated as PG of Umueri.
A socio-cultural organization, Umueri Diaspora Professionals (UDF), gave praise in reacting to the deployment of a Chief Medical Director (CMD), Dr Chinyere Johnpeter Obi as well as the approval of a dental clinic for the Umueri General Hospital, by Governor Soludo.
Speaking to reporters in Abuja, UDP Executive Secretary Martins Okpala Udo said members of the group and the Umueri community in general, were overwhelmed with joy due to the rapid development taking place in the region. , less than two months since Metchie became the PG.
According to him, the UDP was aware of the letter written to Governor Soludo, by Metchie, requesting his intervention to rehabilitate the general hospital and make it fully functional, among other demands, and commended the governor for his prompt response.
“We are grateful to our State Governor, Professor Chukwuma Soludo, for his positive strides at Anambra currently. But we are particularly happy and therefore congratulate him for the quick response he gave to the letter of appeal written by our President General for an intervention on the General Hospital of Umueri.
“Less than two months since Chief Metchie became the PG of Umueri General Assembly, there have been many developments in the community. In addition to the transformation of the hospital, we are aware of the restructuring of the security architecture and the provision of working equipment to the local vigilante, including communication gadgets, surveillance cameras, an operational vehicle and others which have combined to make Umueri one of the most secure. and peaceful areas in Anambra state today.
“We are also aware of the skills training undertaken and fully funded by the new PG as well as the provision of empowerment materials which has benefited hundreds of women, youth and people in difficulty who can now fend for themselves and employ others,” says the UDP.
Earlier this week, residents of Umueri and others were assured of Governor Soludo’s commitment to transforming communities in the state.
The State Transport Commissioner, Mrs. Patricia Ifeoma Igwebuike, gave the assurances in Lagos on Wednesday during an interactive meeting with Chief Metchie.
The commissioner said that the transformation of the community, in terms of provision of amenities such as hospital, water resources, good roads and others as well as the safety of people’s lives and property, is part of the dream. administrations of a comfortable homeland that Anambra would become.
She said Governor Soludo is working tirelessly to ensure basic amenities reach people wherever they live in the state, adding that communities should reciprocate the administration’s efforts by protecting services. provided in their regions.
