My community dental center will reopen after a year-long vacancy
After being vacant for nearly a year and a half, the My Community dental center on Care Drive in Hillsdale is set to reopen for service.
The center closed in April 2021 when the Branch-Hillsdale-St. Joseph Health Center was unable to find a dentist to fill a vacancy, according to health worker Rebecca Burns.
The BHSJ has now contracted a new dentist who will reopen the office, Hillsdale County Commissioner Brent Leininger said.
“They are in the process of hiring staff and training them,” added Leininger. “They don’t yet know when the clinic will open, but we will work to get that information out as soon as we have it.”

Many residents hope the reopening of the center will help reduce the backlog of local dentists, with many saying it took them weeks or even months to get a dentist appointment in Hillsdale County.
My Community Dental Center is a statewide program with 34 locations throughout Michigan and aims to serve clients with all levels of dental insurance and even those who are uninsured.
Some have traveled as far away as Ann Arbor for dental work due to local appointment availability issues.
“It’s been frustrating for sure,” said Kent Jacoby, who recently moved to the county with his wife and three teenagers.
