CHICO – Northern Valley Indian Health opened a new clinic on June 27, but held its groundbreaking and ribbon-cutting ceremony Friday morning.
“We wanted to show what had progressed,” chief executive Inder Wadhwa said at the ceremony. “I would like to warmly thank the Board of Directors. Their vision has been to serve American Indians and it’s so beautiful to see.
The clinic has an area of 20,000 square feet. It has 14 medical examination rooms, an ante/isolation room for patients with infectious diseases, a telehealth room, six behavioral health offices, administrative offices, tax offices , information technology offices, state-of-the-art design and equipment, and land. available for future expansion.
The clinic had been under construction for two and a half years. It serves non-natives and the underserved population. It serves five counties, including Butte, Tehama, Glenn, Colusa, and Yolo counties. It has a mobile dental clinic. There are also several clinics in other parts of Chico and surrounding areas. The East Avenue clinic includes comprehensive care, the Cohasset clinic offers dental and women’s health services, the Springfield clinic offers a children’s health center, and the new Concord Avenue clinic offers medical and behavioral health services. There are also clinics in Willows, Red Bluff, Woodland Court and Woodland Gibson.
Some of the clientele is made up of Native Americans, but the clinic serves everyone, said general manager Inder Wadhwa.
The agency was established in 1971 in Oroville and recently celebrated its 50th anniversary.
“There is an unmet need in the community, so we want to provide services to meet that need,” Wadhwa said.
Wadhwa said the clinic accepts all insurance, but if a patient does not have insurance, it offers a sliding scale payment option.
“We want to serve as many underserved people as possible,” he said.
The clinic will provide physical therapy to patients and accept referrals by September. The Willows and Woodland clinics offer addiction medicine services. The physician who provides addiction medicine services at both clinics is Dr. Rajpreet Bhesi.
The new clinic is located at 1990 Concord Avenue and is open from 7:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday to Friday. The clinic offers COVID-19 vaccines to patients six months or older during regular office visits.
