How advances in laser dentistry are making it easier to get a new smile

Boca Raton, FL cosmetic dentist Clive Rosenbusch, DDS says what he’s most proud of in his practice, which has served patients for more than 34 years, is the cutting-edge dental advances he’s been able to use to make the dentist more comfortable for his patients. “The quality of the work we do stands out the most. We work with quality labs and pride ourselves on not being a treadmill office. We take the time to create custom restorations and stunning smiles that suit each person,” he says.

Some of the services he offers in addition to cosmetic dentistry include sleep dentistry, implant prostheses, and laser dentistry, which he says is the future of dentistry. Here, Dr. Rosenbusch shares the best ways laser dentistry can make the smile makeover experience more comfortable and seamless.

Alternative to the dental drill

Dr. Rosenbusch uses a Fotona LightWalker laser for his dental procedures, as an alternative to the dental drill. “For patients who are really averse to having their teeth drilled or can’t stand the sensation, we can now use the laser to prepare the teeth rather than using the drill if they wish. The laser doesn’t even touch the tooth, it’s maybe a centimeter and a half away from the tooth, so it helps take away that fear of the drill,” he explains.

Non-surgical gum lift

For patients who want to correct a gummy smile quickly and relatively painlessly, Dr. Rosenbusch uses his laser to perform a gum lift. “Using laser energy, I remove extra gum tissue around affected teeth and lift the gum line to give a more balanced and aesthetically pleasing smile.” Because it is a non-invasive procedure as opposed to surgery, there is little to no bleeding and very little discomfort.

Treat ATM

Laser therapy can also relieve pain, inflammation, swelling, and discomfort caused by temporomandibular joint (TMJ) disorder. “It works on the jawbone and surrounding muscles using a process called ‘photobiomodulation,’ says Dr. Rosenbusch. “It helps increase the production of the body’s chemical form of energy called ATP. blood flow to reduce cellular waste buildup in damaged jaw joints and muscles, resulting in less pain.
